Hidden Reef - Lyrics
Blinded by the glaring headlights:
You duck in wonder at what’s assailing you
Planned, the work at hand, collapsing castles
Made of playing cards
Cut by the shards turned into shrapnel
Building empires set in quicksand:
You sell to others the ruins tomorrow brings
Sold, the promise holds for the investors
‘till the time is up
Time to pick up the broken pieces
Failed by the very air you breathe
The social fabric wearing thin,
Disaster looming dark on pale horizons
Drowning as faith will dissipate
Replaced by wisdom on a shoe-string
Hanging by a thread of willful disbelief.
You’ve taken sides, yet you deny the contradictions
Then you realize the boat you’re on is sinking fast
Gouged from beneath, now that you’ve hit the Hidden Reef.
Tides have turned upon the mainland:
The shore is shrinking before the crowded dunes
Soon the mournful tune of the reed-piper
Will be all that’s left of this deluded nest of vipers
Failed by the very air you breathe
The social fabric wearing thin,
Disaster looming dark on pale horizons
Drowning as faith will dissipate
Replaced by wisdom on a shoe-string
Hanging by a thread of willful disbelief.
You’ve taken sides, yet you deny the contradictions
Then you realize the boat you’re on is sinking fast
Gouged from beneath, now that you’ve hit the Hidden Reef.
